This is the best coffee cake you will ever have. My Grandmother used to make this coffee cake when I was growing up. I loved it then and I still love it now. We eat it for breakfast and for dessert warmed up with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream. Yum!!
1 ½ Cup Sugar – divided
1 tsp Cinnamon
½ Cup Chopped Walnuts
8 maraschino Cherries – halved and drained
1 Stick Butter
2 Cups Flour
2 tsp Baking Powder
1 Cup Sour Cream
1 tsp Salt
Preheat oven to 350º
In a medium bowl, combine ½ cup sugar, cinnamon, nuts and cherries. Set aside.
In a large bowl, combine 1 cup sugar, eggs, flour, baking powder, butter and salt. Mix together. Fold in the sour cream.
Grease a tube pan and pour ½ the batter in the pan. Pour ¾ of the cinnamon-sugar mixture on top of the batter. Pour the remaining batter over the cinnamon-sugar mixture. Top with the remaining ¼ of the cinnamon-sugar.
Bake for 1 hour.
